The dance program opens its annual Spring Dance Concert this week on Thursday, March 21, with shows running through Sunday, March 24.

The girls have been working hard all year learning the choreography for their dances. Dance Company will perform six dances, each Dance III class will perform three, Dance II has two, and Dance I has one.

According to senior Dance Company member Hannah Jung, some dances to look out for are “Sail,” “Ah… I See,” and “Bed of Roses.”

“Dance II’s ‘Sail’ is a unique mix of ballet and modern, and it looks really strong,” she said. “The girls have done a great job with it. ‘Ah… I See’ is the most hardcore of our Company dances, and we’re really excited to finally perform it in front of an audience. In Dance III’s ‘Bed of Roses’ they throw flower petals around, so it should be really cool for the audience to see.”

The dance program invited 4th and 5th graders from Dresden Elementary to watch their dress rehearsal on Wednesday, March 20.

Before the performance, Dance III senior Regan Schlader said, “I’m most excited for the dress rehearsal because the little kids from Dresden get super into it. Last year they started singing ‘Handclap’ with our music and it was just really fun to be a part of, so this year should be really great.”

As with every year, the Dance Concert is bittersweet for the seniors, especially the girls who have been in the program since their freshman year.

“I’m most excited to dance with all of my senior classmates for the last time. We’ve all been together since freshman year for the most part and it’s going to be really emotional when we finish our final dance,” senior Dance III member Laura Blackburn said.

Dance III senior Carmen Anglin agreed. “I’m actually pretty sad that it’s our last year, but it’s really fun to get to dance with all of my friends,” she said.

Their final show of the year is the NOVO Choreography and Benefit Performance on Friday, May 3.
