Forget the music, the Grammy Awards are more about the fashion

Emalyn Yantis, Staff Writer

The 62nd Grammy Awards last Sunday was a night full of awards and performances that highlighted the best in the music industry. I, however, was way more interested in the fashion than the gold statues. Some looks were a hit, while others were a tragic miss. Here’s my five favorite moments from the night.

5. Jessie Reyez

Jessie Reyez is a Canadian singer who rose to fame in 2017 with hits like “Figures” and “Crazy.” Her simple red dress was classy enough for the Grammys, but I think she could’ve dressed it up a little more. The dress was basic and looked like something you would find in a mall. Overall, she pulled off the look and looked great on the carpet.

4. Pia Mia

Pia Mia is an R&B and pop singer based out of Guam, and she’s worked with Chris Brown and Chance the Rapper. Mia’s romper was glittery, fun and elegant, but I don’t think it was Grammy appropriate. The outfit was very showy and a little revealing, but I think her outfit would have been more suitable in a less formal environment.

3. Alessandra Ambrosio

Alessandra Ambrosio is a model for Victoria’s Secret and is well known in the modeling community. Her black and white romper was a bold move and she absolutely pulled it off. She could’ve won something a little more dressy for such a prestigious event, but she didn’t look like everyone else and did a good job standing out.

2. Lucky Daye

Lucky Daye is a singer-songwriter who writes R&B and alternative music. Daye wore a robin’s egg blue suit and a pair of white and gray sneakers. His suit worked very well on the red carpet.

1. Shawn Mendes

Currently, Shawn Mendes stands as one of the biggest stars in pop culture with many hits like “If I Can’t Have You” and “Stitches.” Mendes wore a red suit and looked perfect (as usual). The suit is similar to the one he wore to the VMA’s, which was a little disappointing, but Mendes still looked the best on the red carpet.
