St. Pius X hosted the annual Morning of the Arts on Wednesday, November 17 for sixth graders from six local Catholic middle schools. The 280 guests were treated to performances from several Fine Arts programs, including guitar, dance, band, and chorus.
In addition to having fun on stage, the performers said that this event offers a great opportunity to practice for future shows as well.
“The Morning of the Arts is a good time for us to experience what it is like to perform on stage in front of a large audience,” said junior John Syribeys, a member of the advanced guitar program.
Lion Leaders in the audience enjoyed the show as well.
“My favorite was the percussion ensemble,” senior Cecilia Burke said. “I don’t know what song they were playing, but it made me want to do the Dougie. And I did.”
After watching the performances in the Young Center, the visiting students went on school tours led by the Lion Leaders then headed to the stadium for a Chick-fil-A lunch and one final performance from the marching band.
“It’s cool being able to perform for the middle schoolers, knowing that I was once in their place,” senior marching band members Alex Cordovado said.
The Fine Arts programs have several upcoming performances in the final few weeks of the semester. Just a few hours after Morning of the Arts, the dance program was back in action on the stage Wednesday evening for their annual NOVO choreography project, and they’ll perform again on December 3 at their Christmas Concert. Also performing at the Christmas Concert is the band (November 20 at 4 p.m.); guitar (December 2 at 7 p.m.); and theatre and chorus (December 8 at 7 p.m.). Admission is free for all students to each of these events.
The most anticipated event for the marching band, though, is their upcoming trip to Hawaii December 3-9 to perform in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade.
