The St. Pius X swim and dive teams completed their season with their state meet February 3-5. Hosted at Georgia Tech’s Aquatic Center, the girls team won the state championship, and the boys placed third.

The highlight of the weekend was junior Julia Herring who won the 1 meter dive competition and set a state record. This was her third consecutive diving title.

“I felt so relieved that all my hard work had paid off,” she said.

Also contributing to the girls’ first place finish was the 200 Freestyle Relay team that placed second, consisting of sophomores Libby O’Donnell and Coleman Sheppard and seniors Anna Maloof and Samantha Feild. Maloof was also on the second place 200 Medley Relay team that also included juniors Emily Hedges and Amelia Maloof as well as sophomore Betsy Bierbaum.

On the boys team, senior Noah Daniels, juniors Ethan Hudock and Jameson Chatfield, and sophomore Zach Sutter took home a first place title in the 200 Medley Relay, and Daniels and Sutter also finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 Butterfly.

The girls swim & dive team earned runner-up titles in 2009, 2015, and 2019, but the 2022 season will mark their first state title.
