Volleyball hosts annual Claws for a Cause event against Marist
The match against their crosstown rivals is also a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity this year

The varsity volleyball team will host Marist for the annual Claws for a Cause game on Tuesday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mark Kelly Gym.
Claws for a Cause has been an ongoing tradition for 13 years between the two Catholic schools, with all proceeds from tickets concession sales, and sponsorships to benefit an organization of choice. This year, the senior volleyball players chose to donate all funds to the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity.
“We picked Habitat for Humanity because Nina [Shaw]’s mom and my mom have worked with the women’s build for a couple of years now, and we just think it’s a really good charity to support,” senior Audrey Balzer said.
The middle school and JV matches will begin at 5:00 p.m. followed by the presentation of the check to the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity at 6:00 p.m.
As for the match itself, the team is feeling confident they’ll bring home a win against them because “we’ve beat them already twice [this season] and haven’t dropped a set to them,” senior Jillian Fry said.
The girls are hoping to get a big crowd to help support the team, and they’re looking forward to what should be an exciting night.
“This is an exciting match because we’re also seniors this year and it [the match] is at home,” senior Abby Williams said. “Usually it switches back and forth between whether it’s at Marist or Pius, so we’re excited that those two things lined up.”
If you are looking for a way to show your school spirit while also giving back to the local community, come on out and support the Golden Lions as they take on the War Eagles tomorrow evening.
