Advanced Drama Company performs one act play, “Dark Road”

The Advanced Drama Company will be back on the stage to perform their one act play, “Dark Road,” on Wednesday, October 26 at 4:30 pm and Thursday, October 27 at 7:00 pm. They will also perform “Dark Road” at the GHSA Region One Act Competition on Saturday, October 30.

The group has been hard at work for the better part of two months to put together the show, which is based around WWII with a focus on the pain and suffering in the Holocaust.

“We did a lot of research about the Holocaust, the rise of nationalism with Nazis, and how they were able to take control of the government,” said Theatre Director Mrs. Tracey Buot. “It’s about how an ordinary person can become evil.”

Mrs. Buot also said that “It was really hard to get in touch with that kind of suffering,” a sentiment she shared with leading actress and Thespian President senior Avery Jones.

“[The hardest part was] getting into my character because she is an evil person, and knowing when to let her go,” Jones said.

Assistant Director Mrs. Amy Williams helped Mrs. Buot and the students bring the characters to life. Mrs. Williams was involved with the drama program for several years with longtime director Ms. Bonnie Spark, but this is the first show she’s done with Mrs. Buot.

“I love Mrs. Williams,” Mrs. Buot said. “I’ve known Mrs. Williams since my kids were in school here, and she’s just really positive.”

Mrs. Buot also appreciates her experience with Ms. Spark, saying, “It’s just fun to work with somebody that has that viewpoint.”

“Dark Road” is the first of four performances by the Advanced Company this year, with the next being a Christmas musical November 30 and December 1, followed by the winter musical in February and a spring showcase in April.
