After a successful regular season, the girls and boys soccer teams are both headed to the second round of the state playoffs. The girls (14-5-1) will play against Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia on Wednesday, April 19 at 5:00 pm. They defeated Mundy’s Mill last week 10-0, a game that was called early because they were up by 7 goals in the first half.

The players said the season got off to a rocky start by their standards and they lost senior Claudia Retler for the year due to a torn ACL, but over time they saw their team chemistry improving.

“We all trust each other and play better as a team” when they bond together as a team, sophomore Amy Burns said.

If they win tonight, they will play in the third round on April 24 against either River Ridge or Roswell.

The boys (12-4-2) take on Veterans High School in Kathleen, Georgia on Thursday, April 20 at 6:00 pm after beating Lovejoy last Friday 5-0.

“We started off really strong in the beginning, then we dominated in the second half,” said sophomore Miguel Mejia about the victory.

Sophomore Charlie Rohs attributes much of the team’s success to seniors Carter Dixon, Tomas Morales, Julian Moran, Phillip Eidson, Spencer Reynolds, Carson Dubay, Bennett Conners, and JD Lopez.

“They are the backbone of the team,” he said, adding that he loves the state playoffs because the games are “really exciting for both the players and the fans.”

If the boys win, they will face either Rome or Lassiter on April 25.

Best of luck to all of our soccer players!
