The St. Pius X Visual Arts program will host the 20th annual Juried Arts Exhibition on March 13 at 6:30 pm in the Young Center. The show features student art, including drawings, paintings, sculptures, and ceramics.
This event is the highlight of the year for visual arts teacher Ms. Corinna Brannon, who described it as “a great opportunity.”
“It’s a great way for people to see different working methods and subject matter,” Ms. Brannon said.
The fine arts students themselves are looking forward to the exhibition too.
“It’s a good opportunity, nice to put your art in and have someone experienced in that field to review it and give feedback even if you aren’t awarded,” said senior AP art student Isabel Darling.
Senior Mary-Sue Jovense, also an AP art student, added, “When they announce the winners, the judges give critiques. It shows what everyone did well. It’s nice to have your work seen and acknowledged by someone well-regarded in the industry.”
This year’s jurors are Joanne Paschall Darby and Mary Stanley, both parents of St. Pius alumni with backgrounds in art. Darby is the co-founder of Nexus Press, a non-profit publication that showcases experimental art in museums worldwide. Stanley, is a local art curator. Alongside operating her gallery, the Mary Stanley Studio, she serves on the board of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, Visitors at Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia, and Atlanta Celebrates Photography as well as the steering committee for Idea Capital.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend this free event and celebrate the artistic talents of our student body.
