On Thursday August 29, a variety of clubs were on display at the annual Club Sign-up Day. This is a brief overview of some of the St. Pius X clubs.
Debate Team
The Debate Team has started to prepare for the upcoming debate season. They have weekly meetings Tuesday and Thursday in room 503
“I’ve learned so much [about the world around me] in debate and made so many new friends,” said Ashlyn Loving, a junior and president of the debate club. When asked what she loves about the club, she says. For more information, you can contact junior Ashlyn Loving and Dr. Lauer.
Photography Club
Do you like taking pictures? The photography club might be for you. They take part in competitions and partner up with the sports teams once a month to take pictures. Currently, they don’t have a meet-up date, but email seniors Addison Harrell or Katie Swartz for the survey for the best date to meet up.
Math Club
Harrell is also a part of the Math Club. Meetings include doing fun logic puzzles and sometimes practicing for math competitions. They meet up Fridays in Dr. Harper’s room. Going to Math Club will also earn you points for Mu Alpha Theta, the Math Honor Society. If you have any questions or would like to join, contact Dr. Harper or Harrell.
The Diverse Student Union
The Diverse Student Union (DSU) serves to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups at St. Pius X. One Monday out of the month they dedicate time to plan for the reputable Black History Month Assembly and the upcoming Heritage Homecoming. You can find them in Mrs. Kramer’s room from 3:15-4:00. Poetry Club
Roses are red, violets are blue; in the Poetry Club, there is always something new. The Poetry Club meets up Every Tuesday from 3:05 to 4:00 in the library to write original poetry. You can contact captains sophomores Eleanor Hiland or Vivian Mann.
Green Club
Moderated by Ms. Tori Williams and Mrs. Sowers, the group takes care of the recycling around the school and also participates in recycling competitions with other schools in Georgia “I love taking care of the environment within our school community,” said Trina Pham, a sophomore. They meet up every Wednesday at 3:10 in room 205. Last year they won fifth place for a glass bottle recycling competition.
International Thespians Society
Mrs. Warren is the moderator of the International Thespians Society. National Thespians is a club for students interested in the performing arts, but it is not limited to the students already in the arts program; everyone is welcome to join.They have meetings once a month in rooms 109 and or 103. Cancer Awareness Club
Seniors Ella and Savannah Stone founded this club after their mom passed away from cancer, they created the club as an outlet for students who have similar struggles. They have meetings on the first Thursday of the month where they participate in service projects for different cancer organizations. Mrs. Amy Williams is one of the moderators for the Cancer Awareness Club alongside Dr. Harper. This October, volunteer for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Atlanta. They also make bracelets and make cards to support cancer patients and their families. Email the Stone sisters, Mrs. Williams, or Dr. Harper if you are interested in joining.
Perpetual Sisterhood
According to junior Anne Walsh, “Perpetua is a group of girls who focus on community and service. They create an open space for faith and friendship,” They meet twice a month, often on Wednesday mornings to participate in service opportunities and spend time in a calming space. Creative Writing Club
If you have a passion for writing but don’t like writing English essays, then the Creative Writing Club might be for you. They have meetings once a month on Thursday mornings in room 213.
St. Pius X is not short of clubs and organizations. If you are interested, it is not too late to join a club that you’re interested in. If none of these clubs interest you, check out the St. Pius X website for a list of other clubs.
