The St. Pius X varsity volleyball team will host Marist on Thursday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m. for the 15th annual Claws for a Cause game.
Claws for a Cause began when the two teams did not play against each other during the regular season, but they wanted to maintain the rivalry. All funds from tickets, concession sales, and sponsorships go to a designated organization. This year, the seniors chose to donate all profits to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).
“We picked NAMI because I’ve already been involved with the Atlanta chapter and I’ve seen the prevalent issue around our school,” senior Madeline Ramer said. “It was something different that we haven’t done before, so I proposed it to the seniors and we all voted on it.”
As for the game itself, the girls are excited to have a chance at redemption from the loss earlier this season against their rivals.
“I’m looking forward to playing Marist because it’s a very competitive game,” senior Amber Diaz said.
The girls are hoping to get a big crowd to help support the team, and they’re looking forward to what should be an exciting night.
“I’m hoping that people actually come, especially since this is for a good cause, because usually when there are people there, it gets really exciting,” said Ramer.
Middle school and JV matches will start at 5:00 p.m. with the presentation of the check to NAMI to follow at 6:00 p.m. Come on out to the Mark Kelly Gym and support the Golden Lions as they take on the War Eagles tomorrow evening.
