The St. Pius X Theatre Program will present its Fall One-Act Plays, “The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong” and “James and the Giant Peach” and on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 pm in the Young Center.
Since the start of the school year, students in the Advanced Drama Company and the newly formed Advanced Musical Theatre Company have been working hard to perfect their shows. Director Mrs. Jami Warren, along with Vocal Studio Director Mr. Mike Abreu and Theatre Technology Director Mr. Keith Cordell, has been collaborating on the productions since January.
“I’m just really excited for everyone to see the talent that we have,” said Mrs. Warren.
“The One-Act Play That Goes Horribly Wrong”
Performed by the Advanced Drama Company, the show is a fun comedy about the opening night of “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” where everything that can go wrong does.
“It’s a play within a play…It’s like ‘Clue’ where you’re trying to figure out who murdered the person, but the funny thing is that all the people that are playing the characters are not really good at acting [in the community theater] so they start making mistakes and everything goes wrong,” explained junior Lizeth Sanchez.
The audience can expect a lot of laughter.
“It’s very funny on the surface, but also it’s a very interesting murder plot as well,” said junior Audrey Buresh.
Cast Members: Chris (Caroline Hart ‘27), Jonathan (Allison Bombardier ‘29), Robert (Audrey Buresh ‘27), Dennis (Lizeth Sanchez ‘27), Sandra (Caroline Dowhy ‘28), Max (Dylan Marlar ‘27), Annie (Kate Wilson ‘28), and Trevor (Jack O’Donnell ‘26).
“James and the Giant Peach”
The Advanced Musical Theatre Company will perform this musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic, a whimsical tale about James and his insect friends traveling across the ocean on a giant peach.
Freshmen Emma Sophia Cruz and Sophia Ngo play a pair of “atrocious aunts.”
“We’re, like, the evil villains of the whole story,” Cruz said, “and I think that our dynamic duo make the show really fun.”
Ngo said that just like with “The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong,” the audience will laugh a lot because of the interesting relationship between the aunts, James, and the bugs.
The Advanced Musical Theatre Company performed “James and the Giant Peach” at the GHSA One-Act Play Competition last weekend. They scored a 94 overall, with one judge even giving them a perfect score of 100.
Senior Lauren Baker and freshman Emma Mong won All-Star Cast awards, Cruz won Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and the entire cast won Best Ensemble.
