Many teenagers can say they have a job, but how many can say they say that they work with their best friends from school? Bruster’s Ice Cream has always been known for its friendly atmosphere and great customer service, but you probably not have known is that over half the staff at the Toco Hills location attends St. Pius X. (Maybe that’s why it’s so friendly) We interviewed some of these Golden Lion ice cream experts to find out what it’s like to work with so many classmates.

Junior Mary Parker Lynch

What’s your favorite part of working at Bruster’s?

I love the manager Hasil. He is so funny and relates to all us teens.

What is your funniest memory you have from working there?

[One] very funny night, we had a lot of Pius visitors and me and Aggie messed up way to many times with the orders because we were just laughing so hard.

Do you eat a lot of the ice cream?

I eat so much ice cream. My favorite flavor is the chocolate mudslide.

When did you start working and what made you choose the job?

This past summer because my brother works there and so many Pius people work at the Toco Hills location and said it was fun.

Do you enjoy working with St. Pius people?

I do very much enjoy it because everyone is so nice and we all can bond over our ups and downs.

What is the hardest ice cream to scoop and why?

Definitely Double Chocolate Chunk. It’s always so frozen and I guarantee each staff member will say that.

I eat way too much ice cream and bring back home even more

What’s your favorite part of working at Bruster’s?

Working with my friends and a bunch of high schoolers is so much fun, but I honestly love seeing people I know and getting to serve them.

What is your funniest memory you have from working there?

I knocked over all the M&M’s making a huge mess. Another time I kept getting this one man’s order wrong, and he was not having it.

It’s so hard to not eat ice cream when your there, so yeah.

When did you start working and what make you choose the job?

I started two summers ago. I chose it because I needed a job and money and this looked the most fun.

Yes, that’s the best part. Even if you aren’t friends with them in school, you become great friends with them through Bruster’s

What is the hardest ice cream to scoop and why?

Double Chocolate Chunk, no explanation. If you’re weak in the arms, this one hits hard.

Senior Gianna Zammuto

What’s your favorite part of working at Bruster’s?

The free little scoops that I can get when I come in, and we also get 50% discounts.

What is your funniest memory you have from working there?

Well, one time I was making a Blast [similar to a milkshake], so I reach up ready to get some M&M’s and when I’m bringing them back down, they go all over the floor. I had to go get a mop and a broom and clean it all up.

Do you eat a lot of the ice cream?

Not really, I just use a spoon so I am not tempted to eat more.

When did you start working and what made you choose the job?

The summer before my junior year.

For sure, white turtle, because you have caramel in it and it’s super sticky.
