St. Pius X will host the 2nd annual Heritage Homecoming tonight from 6:00-8:00 pm in both gyms. The evening will include homemade international food from students and families, a fashion show, and other live performances.
The main creator and organizer of the event is counselor Mrs. Mary Pat Martin, who describes Heritage Homecoming as “a celebration of our entire St. Pius community with food and entertainment. People just don’t realize how diverse our community is and how our families have ties to all over the world.”
Mrs. Martin said she was inspired to introduce Heritage Homecoming last year because “It provides our community the opportunity to bring about awareness and provide a cultural education. We [educate ourselves] by learning about different backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints.”
She added, “It enables us to grow closer as a community. It also allows the students and families of St. Pius to feel comfortable together.”
The event will be very similar to last year with the addition of a few new things.
“Thanks to the outpouring of support from our faculty, staff, students, and parents, this year we’re amping up the entertainment, including an international fashion show,” Mrs. Martin said. “We’re adding a contest for the top three dishes where everyone can vote, some live cooking by a resident staff member, and a student to add to the popular international coffee tasting we had last year. We’re also having some cultural games and adding an art gallery.”
Students can earn a Work of Mercy if they volunteer to work a shift and bring a dish separate from what their family brings. Plan on stopping by Heritage Homecoming tonight for a fun event that highlights our school’s international diversity.
