St. Pius X celebrated a longstanding tradition on Saturday, August 10, Camp Golden Lion. Hosted by the Lion Leaders, freshmen and their parents were invited to an evening in Mark Kelly Gym where they celebrated a group mass. Then parents were taken to the auditorium for an information session with administration while freshmen were set free to play games and socialize. Some of the games played this year included spikeball, 5v5 basketball, and even an inflatable obstacle course.
“I remember playing knockout and on the bouncy house, racing each other,” junior Lion Leader John Burton said about attending Camp Golden Lion when he was a freshman. “I mean, it was just such a great time. I remember beginning my freshman year with that, it was just a really great way to start off the year.”
In her fifth year of helping organize Camp Golden Lion, Assistant Enrollment Director Mrs. Molly Wack said, “it helps [freshmen] meet new people and also make it feel like they have started high school in a way that they have some more freedom that they never had in middle school.”
The overall consensus from freshmen who went said they had a great time, although freshman Carson Krebs said “[he] wishes there [were] more bouncy houses.”
The Lion Leaders look forward to hosting this event again next year and plan to offer the Class of 2028 more opportunities to become more involved in St. Pius.
