Every year, certain fashion and beauty trends take over, only to fade just as quickly as they arrived. While some styles become classics, there are many right now that need to go. We need to say goodbye to these short-lived trends and invest in lasting staples.
Dupes of Everything
The obsession with finding affordable alternatives to designer pieces has led to an endless cycle of consumers buying fakes of everything. While wanting to shop on a budget will always be in style, having a closet full of knock-offs will never. These fakes are often pretty obvious, and it is clear when someone’s bag, clothing, jewelry, ect. is fake. Our society as a whole should start buying fashion staples instead of cheaply made designer dupes.
Fake Freckles
Real and natural freckles will always be beautiful, but fake, drawn on freckles need to go. This past year, many people started to draw on fake freckles and there were few people who actually pulled it off. The fake freckle wearers think this gives them a sun-kissed natural makeup look, but it tends to make their face look dirty. This year we should start embracing natural skin textures and features.
Soap Brows
The laminated, brushed-up brow trend had its moment, but it is officially over done. They should be replaced with more natural brow shapes, but without the shiny, overly structured effect. And besides, who wants a pair of caterpillars on their face?
Barrel Jeans
Barrel jeans spawned out of nowhere, and it’s already time to get rid of them. Over-sized, baggy denim has been everywhere, but barrel jeans
just took that look too far. While comfort and relaxed fits of jeans are perfectly fine, there is no need to be doing that much.
Coffin Nails
The long, sharp coffin nails have been popular these past few years, but it’s time for shorter and more natural nail shapes. Not only do they not look good, but they are a huge inconvenience. Without these long nails, women will finally be able to open a can and type on a computer.
High-Maintenance Hair Colors
Trendy hair colors like platinum blonde and bold colors are high maintenance and require frequent hair appointments. More people are prioritizing healthy hair and lower maintenance styles, and natural hair colors are the easiest way to achieve that. High-maintenance colors are out because the cost, damage to the hair, and time spent in the salon is not worth it.
Over-consumption
Over-consumption of fast fashion brands needs to be the first trend to go. The constant cycle of buying into every trend has led to wasteful shopping habits and cluttered wardrobes filled with trendy items that only get worn once. In 2025, everyone should focus on curating a wardrobe with items that will last for years. Investing in timeless pieces rather than constantly buying into every trend is in.
These are just a few of the trends that I think are out, but if you participate in any of them, continue wearing what makes you happy.
