St. Pius X Catholic High School has been home to championship athletic programs for over 60 years, and now it is honoring the people who have excelled on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. The new Athletics Hall of Fame will celebrate athletes and coaches who have made a significant impact on our school and community.
“The traditions and history at St. Pius X for athletics are absolutely amazing—arguably some of the finest achievements in high school sports. I think everyone knows this tradition but may not know the specifics, as well as the huge volume of talented athletes. It’s wonderful to be able to highlight these details for our community,” said Athletic Director, Mr. Mooney.
The inaugural class of the Athletics Hall of Fame will be celebrated in three different groups. The first group of inductees is from St. Pius X classes of 1960-1980, and they will be honored on March 15 in the Mark Kelly Gym from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tickets are $30, and more information about them can be found at this link.
The second induction ceremony, scheduled for October 25, 2025, will celebrate inductees from the classes of 1990-2000. The final group of inductees will be honored in the fall of 2026.
“When Mr. Parr became our President, he championed the idea and made it a priority for the school,” Mr. Mooney said. “Our Alumni Director, Mrs. Ciprari, has been co-chair with me and has been an amazing driving force behind the project. Our Director of Facilities, Blaise Wannemacher, has been extremely instrumental in renovations and logistics for our permanent location for the Hall.”
The guidelines for selection include contributions to St. Pius X athletics; the success of teams in regional, state, and national competition; honors and awards; length of affiliation with the athletic program; academic accolades; leadership roles; service and community involvement (at all levels); and modeling the values of St. Pius X.
“I think we all believe the celebration will grow as time goes on, and we hope this will be very special for the inductees and their families,” said Mr. Mooney.
The Hall of Fame is an exciting milestone for St. Pius X because it continues to celebrate our legacy of success in both athletics and academics.
