From breaking records to a D1 commit. The St. Pius X Golden Lions men’s basketball team is on track to be the best in St. Pius’s history with an undefeated record of 25-0
“This is definitely a special season because we’re definitely working to be the best boys basketball team in [St.Pius X’s] history,” said junior Max Etienne.
Even though they are undefeated, senior Westin Kepen says, “Yeah, we’ve already won the same amount of games we did last year, but I feel like the main thing [that’s special] is how much of a team we actually are.”
Some of the highlights over the season include wins over Marist, Southwest Dekalb, and Walton.
“We started off strong, we’ve been going strong, we haven’t gotten a big hit, [and] we’re still willing to get better every day,” said senior D’Marley Elliott. “I mean I feel confident within our team and our guys that we are gonna get it done.”
This year has been full of exceptional individual moments as well. Elliott broke the school rebound record with 679 on January 9th during the game against Walton, and he also scored his 1000th point this season.
The player who’s gotten the most attention by far this season is senior and 4-star Clemson commit Haris Reynolds. Harris missed most of last season due to a shoulder and knee injury and got to walk back onto the court after a while. This season he set the single game scoring record in their game against Tucker on December 2nd 2025 with 42 points and reached his 1000th career point against Druid Hills on February 13th.
Speaking about the team’s unprecedented season, Reynolds said, “it’s been really great. Nobody really expected it, but we gotta keep it up.”
While the team faced Clarkston on senior night Friday, January 31st, they worked and locked in everyday at practice.
In order to keep the team prepared for big matchups head coach Will cloyd said, “Especially late in the season, you’re going to be in those situations when things are tight and you’ve got to be mentally prepared for the things to expect.”
The Golden Lions play at Southwest Dekalb for playoffs on Thursday, February 12th where the team looks to be undefeated and make it to the state tournament.
