In recognition of National Vocations Awareness Week, St. Pius X welcomed two seminarians from the Archdiocese of Atlanta on Wednesday November 5, Oswaldo Franco and Jonathan Nguyen, class of 2017. They spoke to theology classes in the library throughout the day about discerning vocations from God, specifically priesthood and religious life.
“It was valuable to meet two of the seminarians who have both grown up in Catholic schools here in the Archdiocese of Atlanta,” explained the Chaplain Father Robbie Cotta. “I think it’s important for our students to see that priests do not just appeal out of nowhere, and that not all of us are old. But actually we are just normal folks that come from normals families and normal schools and chosen this like kind of extraordinary vocation.”
Franco and Nguyen shared their own personal journey to the priesthood, students had the chance to ask questions.
“I was grateful that some of the students asked whether or not the seminaries had regretted their decision to enter seminary or if they spent any time wondering what their life would be like had they not done this.” Father Robbie said this was his favorite question.
Hearing from the seminarians gave students the opportunity to reflect on what God may be calling them to do in their own futures and learn more about religious life.
